The Gisborne Caledonian Society Inc. held their Birthday dance on Saturday 18th July 2009 with over 50 dancers attending, some travelling from Opotiki and Whakatane to be with us. We were also privilged to have our Mayor and Mayoress, Meng and Ying Foon join members to celebrate the organisations 56th birthday and present a life membership award to Irene Corbin for her many years of service to our society. Irene was first voted onto the Gisborne Caledonian Society Committee in March 1993 and in 2002 accepted the position of Secretary, the role she still holds. The St Marks hall took on a Scottish theme of tartan, this receiving many favorable comments, with dancers ready to enjoy a fun filled evening of good music, dancing and companionship. Piper Dave Andrew, piped the chiefs and their partners into St Marks Church Hall and were met by our chief Barry Reid and Mrs. Pat Reid. Our committee is encouraged to have a number of young adults/teenage members, some joining us for our 56th birthday dance.

Another most enjoyable dance was held on Saturday 21st November 2009 the theme was 'Titanic'. Our chief Barry Reid had spent many hours designing, cutting out, painting and completing a large size 'Titanic" ship complete with lights, flashing and fading. The model was displayed about centre height, and fitted two-thirds across the back wall of St Marks Church hall. What a wonderful job Barry had done. Many of the dancers attending wore period dress of the 1912/1920's St Marks church hall was also dressed up for the occasion with streamers, pictures, and photos of that era. Also displayed was a miniature replica model of the Titanic made by one of our committee, Jan Nielson, a jeweller by trade.

Over 50 dancers including members from kindred socities attended the evening, and enjoyed a lavish supper, music and dancing.

Any dancers from out of town coming to Gisborne during the year will be warmly welcomed.

Contact numbers Irene 06 867 3572 or Barry 06 868 5409.

Happy dancing, Irene Corbin. Secretary

On behalf of the sequence dance community in Christchurch, we would like to thank George and Elaine Wright of Dallington Dancers for their sterling contribution to the sequence dance scene over the last eighteen years.  They will be sadly missed by the entire dancing community and leave big shoes  to be filled.  Their final dance is Saturday 19 September (7.30pm) at the Riccarton Community Centre for those who would like to say farewell.

We wish you well George and Elaine for your courage in forging a new path in the North Island.  You will be an asset to whichever community in which you make your home.  It is certainly our loss and the North Island gain.

WE WILL ALL MISS YOU.

Manawatu Dancing Club started back in November 1967, and in 2007 celebrated our 40th Anniversary.

We welcome new members from within our local area, with our membership coming from as far afield as Dannevirke, Wanganui and Levin, and we also pride ourselves on warmly welcoming dancers from other places, both within NZ and overseas.

We hold our dances in the Newburry Hall, which is approx. 3km. from Palmerston North boundary, on Rangitikei Line.

We start our dancing each year on the first Tuesday in February, and we dance every Tuesday from then until the  second Tuesday in December at 7.15pm - 10.00pm, admission $3.50pp. Tuesday dances involve sequence dancing and we learn new sequence dances from time to time on Tuesdays.

Our Saturday night dances are held fortnightly, starting on the second Saturday in February each year, until the first or second Saturday in December at 7.30pm - 11.00pm. Admission $7.00 pp.

The first Saturday night dance for the year is a Social dance which includes Ballroom and the older dances ie Maxina, Gypsy Tap, Destiny etc., but also included are the simpler sequence dances such as the Jacqueline Cha Cha, Catherine Waltz, Bermuda Foxtrot etc. The following fortnightly dance is sequence dancing and we alternate between the two types of dances throughout the year.

OLD TIME SEQUENCE DANCE ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH

Wow , what a night, approximately 70 people gathered to say
a BIG thankyou to Denis & Irene Phillips who have given a lot
of people many happy years of dancing and we are sorry to say
that they held their last dance on Saturday 6th September 2008
at Riccarton Community Centre, Clarence Street, Riccarton Christchurch.

Every-one there had a great time and we wish Denis & Irene all the best
and we know we will still see them at dances without the responsibilities
that go with running a dance

This dance group was started in 1949, nearly 60 years ago, and it will be a
big loss to Sequence Dancing in Christchurch.

Denis & Irene would thank every-one for supporting them over the years.
There maybe a get -togetherfor all retired dancers at a later date.
